Tips on choosing a domain name
Keep it short, keep it simple
To find your site people need to be able to remember your address and easily type it in to their browser. Aim to register the shortest name that your customers and visitors will associate with your website.
Make it easy to communicate verbally
Whenever possible you should try choosing a name that is easy to say. Consider the following: www.thewoollyjumpershop.co.uk and www.the-wooly-jumper-shop.co.uk. As you can gather, it’s much easier to tell someone your website is The Woolly jumper Shop dot co dot uk rather than The hyphen Woolly hyphen Jumper hyphen Shop dot co dot uk. Guess which one of those names is more likely to get word of mouth traffic?
Using names with numbers
There’s nothing wrong with using numbers in a domain name even though many so called experts will tell you to avoid it, but if you do intend to use numbers in your domain name, consider registering the name using both the numeric and alphabetical versions (e.g. 8bells.com and eightbells.com) as it helps avoid confusion when you tell anyone your web address. Visitors can still find your website regardless of which way they type the name in their browser.
Avoid registering trademark names
You could land yourself in a heap of trouble and face losing your name if it’s someone else’s trademark. Don’t bother registering a domain name if the name is a trademark, unless of course it’s your own trademark.
Register all popular extensions
It is a good idea to register several domain name extensions, particularly if you own a trademark for a certain name. If possible register the .co.uk, .com, .eu and .net. These are the most popular domain names and by registering all of them you can help to prevent cyber squatters and losing traffic.
Consider common typos
If you have a domain name that can easily by pluralised or even miss-spelled consider registering those as well to stop traffic going elsewhere.
Shop around
Generally the domain name market is very competitive, but some companies still sell .uk domain names for as much as £80 per year. Simply Eddie’s Web Services are one of the cheapest in the UK with domains from only £7.15 for 2 years. Make sure you get a good deal!
Register your domain now!
Hundreds of domains get registered every day so register as soon as possible. If you wait you risk being stuck with names like the-domain-that-nobody-wants.com. You don’t need to wait until you have a website.
Follow this guide to see how easy it is to register a domain name with Simply Eddie’s
Step 1:
Enter the name you want to register in to the search input box on our homepage at www.simplyeddies.co.uk then click the search button (magnifying glass icon).

Step 2:
Wait a few seconds for the search results to appear.
When you see the results page simply select the checkboxes on the right opposite all domain extensions you wish to purchase.
Scroll down the page and click the ‘Add to Basket’ button.

If any of the domain extensions have already been registered they will appear in a separate list shown as domains available to transfer. If you own any of those extensions you can simply select the checkboxes on the right to transfer those domains to our system. If you don’t own them you can just ignore that section.
Step 3:
At this stage you will be shown your basket. You can add more products or delete any you don’t want.
When you are ready to purchase the contents of your basket, click the ‘Continue to Checkout’ button.

Beware: Our System Is Automated!
Double check the spelling of the domains in your basket. If you make the mistake of spelling your domain name wrong and don’t notice until after it has been registered then your only option is to register the name again with the correct spelling. We cannot issue refunds once a domain is registered so unfortunately you will be required to pay again.
Step 4:
You will be invited to log in to your account if you already have one or open a new account if you don’t.
If you don’t already have an account, simply enter a valid email address in the first input box then click on the second radio button titled ‘No, continue to checkout’, then click the ‘Continue’ button.

Step 5:
Enter your personal details in to the form then click the ‘Register Now’ button.
Follow any other prompts through the checkout to complete the purchase.
Our system will automatically register your new domain name as soon as your payment has been made.

As soon as your domain registration has been completed you will be able to manage it in your new account.
Beware: Our System Is Automated!
Double check you have entered your details correctly. Our system will register your domain names using the information entered here.
